The International Rescue Committee is an organization dear to my heart. If anyone is looking for an organization to support/become involved with, the IRC is a wonderful option. The photo above is from the IRC's annual Thanksgiving Feast where IRC refugees, volunteers, and staff come together for a day of thanks. I had a great time shooting the event, mingling with everyone there, and enjoying the lively entertainment. So fun! I'm looking forward to shooting more photography for the IRC in the future!

Recently I did a fun Christmas Card shoot with the adorable brother sister duo, Alex and Nico. In an attempt to invoke some 'natural laughs' (this process is always interesting), I ended up with a head covered in whip cream. This jesterish approach was semi successful but I have to say it did much more for my hair, which curled beautifully the next morning. Seriosuly, no joke, my hair has never looked so good! Like it looked really good. My advice to all you ladies, metrosexual men, and queens who have a party packed holiday season, run to your nearest neighborhood grocery, grab a can of cool whip, and turn on the curling wand. Cheers!

The lime green, tribal print tunic dress (shown above) is being sold on the Show Me Your Mumu site. 50% of the proceeds from each sale will go to the Turn the Corner Foundation, an international leader in the field of education and awareness of Lyme and tick-borne diseases, for which Candice is the celebrity spokesperson. I was more than happy to show my support through helping out with some photos of Candice looking lovely in her Mumu!

This past weekend Ambient Plus Studio in Atlanta hosted The Indie Craft Experience’s Wedding Day Hooray where local vendors were selling adorable handcrafted items that could be used in the production of a wedding (cake toppers, stationary/invitations, jewelry, clothing, table center pieces, bridal party gifts, decor, guest books, party favors, etc) and wedding day services (photographers, hair and makeup artists, bakers, caterers, etc). I went to check it out and left beaming with inspiration for engagement photos! Here were some of my favorite vendors. Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans Short Film

Six Flags New Orleans, located in Eastern New Orleans in the 9th ward, which was one of the hardest hit areas of Hurricane Katrina, was heavily flooded and damaged by the hurricane in August 2005. The park has been shut down ever since with no immediate plans for reopening. My friends and I decided to take ourselves on a little tour and this is what we found. Warning: Alligators ahead...like for real....I am not joking. True Blood fans will enjoy this!!!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph lululemon fitness ambassadors Missi Wolf, Michael Giardina, Laurie Knowles, and Corey Waller for this Canadian-based yoga store. The lululemon ambassador program is extended to unique individuals in the store communities who embody the lululemon lifestyle and live the lulu culture. lululemon just put my photos up in their new Atlanta store located in 'The Shops Around Lenox.' It is so cool to see them blown up and surrounded by all of lulu's amazing and crazy colorful clothes clothes. The fact that I practically live in these clothes makes it all the more exiting!

Atlanta Celebrates Photography with The Porfolio Center Exhibiting "Faces of Atlanta"

Friends, if you are in the Atlanta area, come and check out this photography exhibit I am in! ATTN: TIME CHANGE! SHOW NOW OPENS WEDNESDAY, 7:00 PM OCTOBER 20th.

For the exhibit, I photographed refugee women of Atlanta who are being resettled by the International Rescue Committee. Atlanta's refugee population is proportionally the largest refugee population in the country. More than 2 million refugees have arrived in the US since the Refugee Act of 1980, with 50,000 settling in Atlanta and becoming productive members of our community. These are just a few of the lovely faces that make up our increasingly multicultural, diverse, and vibrant city! You can see more from this series on my flickr!

The Honey Cutters

This is a cool band that I did an impromptu photoshoot of with my favorite camera ;) The photo I took below was used in the Nelsonville Music Festival Advertisment. This is exiting because the Swell Season, one of my all time favorite bands (see the movie "once"), was also on the lineup/adverstisment....which means if they looked at it then maybe they saw my picture! Awesome haha!

I took this photo for a book that my class is publishing about a very famous street in Atlanta called Peachtree Street. I wanted to show Peachtree street in a different light so I did a little flaneuring about and found a creek that runs underneath it where some homeless kids had set up a little abode. My favorite part of their home, in addition to the cardboard box overflowing with National Geographics and a homemade bong made out of a vacuum cleaner, was the message I found written on a piece of rotting wood painted baby blue that was being used as a partition for their bedroom. It read "Becky I love you more than anything in this world!" I felt that in a small way, I had been given a very intimate and forbidden glimpse into these kids lives.

I say these kids, but I really don't know who lived here. When I got to their home they had already up and gone, leaving behind a mess of crumpled sheets, strewn magazines and the kind of undistinguishable debris that is often a mystery to those of us who don't exist and operate within the "dark realm" often referred to and so aptly named for this story, as the underbelly of society. This space and message was very evocative for me as I concocted an entire scenario in my head of the characters: 18-20 year old heroin addicted heterosexual couple who probably came from a well off but emotionally unavailable family who had become each others everything.

I wonder where they are now? One day they may look back on this time with disgust and or embarrassment and shame, or as a source of strength. They may bury each others memory in a far off corner of their minds and hearts and hide it from their friends and families in order to forget, or they may remain together. One day they may no longer speak to each other, one might die soon, or both, or they may live long and fulfilling lives. I will never know. But I do know that in that moment they loved each other. And I am happy they did. Or...there is always the possibility that this is just a really kick ass fort :)

Human Rights Love

My friend Colby and I photographed a group of mostly Iranian and Iranian American Human Rights protesters on Peachtree Street in Atlanta who were calling for for the urgent action to stop the execution of prisoners arrested in the recent Iran uprising that arose after the June 2009 presidential election. This young girl, holding a picture of hanged prisoners, was particularly inspiring to me. I always have such admiration for youth activists. She was very serious and even hushed her fellow protesters at one point during a speech. Food for thought: Iran is second only to China as the world's biggest executioner and the US is the worlds fifth biggest executioner just after North Korea. Last Saturday I went to see my friend Julie's band OR, THE WHALE play at the Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta.
